Prayer Point

The Priority of Prayer

Prayer is essential because it is in prayer we meet with God. The gospels give us a snapshot of the life of Jesus, 33 years condensed into four short books! Yet in these pericopes we see Jesus frequently prayed, often for extended periods of time.

Before choosing and appointing His twelve apostles Jesus spent the whole night praying despite having a very heavy schedule the next day! You can read about it in Luke 6:12-19.

The Power of Prayer

Also clear from that passage is the relationship between prayer and power. In verse 12 we see His prayer, in verse 17-19 we see His power (...and the people all tried to touch Him because power was coming from Him and healing them all.)

Jesus is the ultimate authority on prayer, and He tells us that God has chosen to work in answer to prayer. As Dr Oswald J Smith writes...

"Souls are not saved by man but by God, and since He works in answer to prayer we have no choice but to follow the divine plan. Prayer moves the arm that moves the world"

Our need to pray couldn't be clearer, if Jesus, the Son of God needed to pray - dare we think our need is less? Without question - our need to pray is greater!

We wonder why we see so little of the marvels of Jesus, but is it not obvious when we consider; Jesus spent all night in prayer - hence His power, hence our weakness!

Tuesday Prayer Point

On Tuesday evenings we meet as a church to pray believing prayer moves the arm that moves the world. Every week we pray, every week people testify to what God has done in answer! We have a lot to learn and a long way to go but at the Prayer Point we have made a start.

The Apostle Paul writes ...

'Our struggle is not against flesh and blood ... but ... against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places'.

All who want to pray are welcome to join us on Wednesday nights. We meet at 7.30 for an 8.00 start @ 89 bevendean cresent.
